This has been a heavy topic on my mind as of late. Personally, with friends, most of my clients, and so many people I come in contact with.
Funny, how social media can paint a different picture. As I zoom out reflect and move through this myself, another layer unravels and reveals it self. And I think it largely comes back to several key points.
One, this idea from society that we should have this, achieve that, and experience this at this age and it should look like that etc. And sometimes dreams do come true and then sometimes they run its course and fall apart, and can morph into something new. Then what? Because it’s not how we envisioned it to be or where it would go. But, we can still find those key elements of natural human desires out of the most not so envisioned versions we are living to obtain – rest, peace, love, connection, joy, fun etc.
So, this leaves me thinking and realizing again there’s a good amount of surrendering, accepting, and trusting life, – a higher power, God to work it out for us. “
That it can work out, in the unenvisioned version..”
And the other key point is to remember when and if it all falls apart or doesn’t quite go in the direction you want – due to an illness, injuries, the hand you were dealt and so forth we can still have things work out, in that version too. It leads me to remember this believe within myself that it’s not what happens, doesn’t happen but, this internal feeling deep inside to live life, no matter what. That this peace, joy, contentment, courage to fight to live and love fully no matter what season we are in. No matter what is happening. has happened and or what we have gone through again and again, we can fight and get through it and live fully anyways.
I think as long as we are alive anything is still possible. And to never give up on our dreams. And sometimes dreams change as well as our priorities. And to flow with it. Learn who you are, what you want, what’s important to you.
Life wasn’t wasted if it didn’t turn out how we envisioned exactly. I bet we can all write down a ton of things that were wonderful and enjoyable moments that touched us deeply, and how we were blessed along the way. It’s all about what we focus on. Instead of focusing on all the regrets, wishes, disappointments, hard times, (because in this life in which we live in, there will be no shortage of that). We can learn to be grateful right here and right now, make peace with the choices we made, things that happened, things we regret. situations that hold us back that are out of our control.
Accept and make Peace.
How we navigate this – is key. How we learn to enjoy and beat at our own drum in our life – no matter where we find ourselves.
And it may be ordinary.
An ordinary life can be very wonderful! Well, ordinary to societal standards.
And let’s talk retirement. There’s nothing wrong with you if you don’t retire when you wanted or at all. Why is that a failure? My grandmother worked till she passed. She was fine with it. She wanted to. Not full throttle, just part time. And why is that a failure? I think I may work until I pass as well. I like connecting with people, I like having some structure and I like helping people. And I also chose to enjoy my life along the way, instead of the “norm” – work and save exhaustingly year after year, then retire. (And if you chose that way I’m not judging it, it just was not my way.). I would have liked to travel and experienced more stuff than I have already. But, I plan to make up for that if life and my body allows. And if not I’ll find other things, other ways and I will hold dear those past memories. I’ve seen an obscene amount of people work and work and work than their body falls apart soon after they retire and aren’t able to do all the traveling or activity or things they’ve been waiting to do and create in retirement.
So, I don’t think society has it all right. Or maybe it’s not about right or wrong. But. It seems It depends on a lot of variables, like the person, knowing who you are, what hand you were dealt and learning how to make lemonade out of lemons.
But, I think finding out who YOU ARE – is key!
And to be determined to live your best life, – your individual life is key., not what anyone else tells you or society tells you. And continue to navigate and redefine as you go, as you age. It doesn’t matter how others are doing it. And maybe you are one who does want to retire and not work until you pass. Then I do believe you can obtain that. You can! Going back to, it may not look perfectly how you envisioned or how others are doing it. But, if that’s really really important to you, you can. Examples are, you could live in an RV, live in more affordable area, move to Mexico or have roommates and the list goes on and on. We have to learn to make do and a lot of times there are sacrifices but, if something is really really important to you, go after it!!! Learn to be flexible with how it may look. And focus on when you arrive – that you did it, yippie by gosh I did it! Be proud of yourself. And enjoy the hell out of it. I know it can sound simple because there will be a lot of steps to do to get there.
I personally needed to learn anything worth while required a lot of work. And when it’s all said and done, it usually was worth it!
You can do it! Know who you are have the vision, execute with flexibility, trust, and determination.
Your life awaits with whatever you desire!
And it can be how you want it to be in the meat of it anyways. Peace, love, joy, love, contentment
Until next time, keep smiling! 💓
